Historic letters discovered in Alabama A&M archives
By Jack Madison - email
MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) - History has been discovered at Alabama A&M University.
Campus researchers have found two letters, one from Frederick Douglas, and the other from Booker T. Washington.
The letters to the school's founding father, Dr. William Hooper Councill, date back to the 1880's.
Researchers with the J. F. Drake Memorial Learning Resources Center found the letters while sorting through Dr. Hooper's boxes.
"Very exciting. We started out not knowing if we would find anything at all. We were able to see that they did have communication," said Alabama A&M's Carla Clift.
Alabama A&M officials plan to look through other presidents' archives to try and find more historic items.
